Bradley Cooper visits Boston bombing victims

Kudos to Bradley Cooper, who recently visited the victims of the Boston bombing to lift their spirits. Cooper is in Boston filming a movie, and while he did not promote his appearance, others did by tweeting photos like this.

You now have a reason to watch the Oscars Sunday. Jennifer Garner has been announced as a presenter at this year's Academy Awards. The only downside: you'll have to watch four hours of stuff you don't care about to see her. With any luck, Argo will win Best Picture, and Ben Affleck will give his wife a nice shout out. Enjoy!

Jennifer Garner grabs a few souvenirs

According to a report by OK! Magazine, Jennifer Garner took home a few souvenirs for the kids from the BAFTA afterparty; namely, Argo placemats with her husband Ben Affleck on them. The BAFTAs are essentially the British Oscars, and not only was Argo named Best Picture, Affleck was named Best Director. The placemats at the afterparty commemorated the Argo win, and Garner told Hello! Magazine "I'm taking these home for the girls - they will love them. I'm so proud of my husband."

Alias reunion at the SAG Awards!

Lens flares & lightsabers: J.J. Abrams directing the new Star Wars!

It's official! Disney and Lucasfilm have announced that J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars: Episode VII, with a 2015 release date. His production company, Bad Robot, will co-produce.

Rachel Nichols' Continuum on Syfy tonight!

Rachel Nichols has a new hit on her hands - at least in other countries. Her sci-fi time-travel series Continuum has aired in Britian and Canada, and fans love it. Thankfully, U.S. fans get a chance to see it for themselves tonight when the Syfy Channel begins airing Season 1 and 2 back to back. MIss Universe is an Alias fan!

Meet Olivia Culpo, the new Miss Universe and the first American to win the title in 15 years. She just mentioned in US Magazine that she is obsessed with Alias, and is a huge fan of Jennifer Garner. "She got to dress up and change her look, which is kind of what I do," she said.

Arvin Sloane vs Jack Bauer: Ron Rifkin to appear on Touch

Ron Rifkin is headed back to TV next year, as he will appear on the season finale of Keifer Sutherland's show "Touch." The actor will play a mysterious rabbi who crosses paths with Martin, played by Sutherland. Rifkin just turned 73 this past Halloween, and has been seen recently on "Brothers and Sisters."

Meet Gina Torres this weekend at Dallas Comic Con Fan Days!

Who wouldn't want to meet Anna Espinoza? If you live in north Texas, you have your chance this weekend! Gina Torres will be appearing at the Dallas Comic Con Fan Days event this weekend (Oct 20-21) at the Irving Convention Center. The star of Firefly, Suits, and a number of other films and TV shows will be appearing with her Firefly co-cast member Alan Tudyk. Alias is now on Netflix in high definition!

It's official! Months after they announced they had acquired the rights, Netflix has finally posted all 105 episodes of Alias on Netflix Instant! Best of all, the episodes are available in high definition! We've watched several episodes already, and they look great. With some episodes over 10 years old, the early episodes aren't razor-sharp like many new TV shows, but it looks good enough for us. Enjoy!

Victor Garber and Jennifer Garner, together again

Just like our last post, more Alias stars visit Victor Garber while he performs in New York. Here, Jennifer Garner stopped in after not seeing her TV dad in a while, and as you can see, she got pretty emotional. It's a great photo, and it is obvious these two share a bond. It's just too bad we'll never see them in an Alias reunion. Garber himself recently shot down any chance of that. Of course, if you saw the finale, you know why that's obvious.

Victor Garber has been performing in New York recently, and several Alias actors have come by to support him. This time, it's Bradley Cooper, who apparently holds no ill will that Spy Daddy Jack Bristow treated Will Tippin so badly all those years. Enjoy!

Alias coming to Netflix Streaming and Amazon Prime

Disney/ABC has signed a new deal to add Alias to both Netflix Streaming and Amazon Prime's Instant viewing service. The deal includes most TV shows in the Disney/ABC library, and it is unclear how soon we'll be able to get instant Sydney Bristow gratification.

Not only is Jennifer Garner working on baby #3, she's working on a new show for ABC. Based on a book, it's called The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth and follows a group of high schoolers. It appears she will serve as an executive producer but will not appear on the show, but since it is still early on, perhaps she can be convinced to play a substitute teacher!

D23 Expo: Giacchino to appear, Garner might be there

D23, the official Disney fan club, is holding their annual convention this weekend in Anaheim, and Alias composer Michael Giacchino will appear Saturday, August 20 t 1:00 p.m. to discuss his work in the Pixar films. JJ Abrams and Michael Giacchino discuss their careers

J.J. Abrams and Michael Giacchino have been joined at the hip - so to speak - for at least the past ten years. The former video game score composer was tapped by Abrams to provide music for some of his biggest projects, including Alias, Lost, Star Trek, Super 8, and Fringe. He won the Oscar in 2010 for his score for the Pixar movie "Up." Last month, Abrams and Giacchino sat down and discussed their careers at the Hammer Museum. Jennifer Garner is Miss Marple

Is Nikita the new Alias?

Since it looks like we won't be seeing an Alias reboot or reunion, you should be watching "Nikita" on the WB, which is a great show and really comes close to capturing the Alias feel. There's plenty of intrigue and espionage, a good helping of spy vs. spy, and of course, a heroine that kicks booty. Lindsy Fonseca really channels Sydney as her character works as a double agent in an organization not unlike the Alliance. Maggie Q may not wear as many wigs as Sydney Bristow, but when you're having this much fun, who cares? 

Fringe gives a shout out to Alias!

If you watched the February 25th episode of Fringe (and if you didn't, shame on you) then you likely noticed a bit of Alias lore return. The episode, which flashed back to the 1980's, showed a young Olivia taking stress tests, including the Project Christmas puzzle Jack gave to Sydney, which of course was featured in the final episode. You can see the puzzle, partially assembled, in the pic to the left. I would imagine this isn't a mistake using props, as this is a Fox show and Alias used ABC's prop department. I would guess this is a deliberate reference. It's kind of cool to think Fringe and Alias are set in the same J.J.-Verse. Given the wide appearance of Slusho in J.J. movies and shows, one must also assume the Cloverfield monster and Captain Kirk live in this universe as well.

Jennifer Garner eyes new independent film

Jennifer Garner is currently attached to star in the independent film Better Living Through Chemistry, according to Variety. The film tells the story of a pharmacist stuck in a loveless marriage who has an affair with a drug-addicted trophy wife. Jeremy Renner, Judi Dench, and Michelle Monaghan are also attached to star.

J.J. Abrams goes "Pulp" for new TV show

   

Word is J.J. is shopping around a new TV show called "PULP," which is being described as an hour -long crime drama with a "reality" tone. Former Alias scribes and exec-producers Monica Breen and Alison Schapker, have written the pilot for the show and would also serve as executive producers if the show is picked up.

Rachel Nichols becomes a "Criminal Minds" regular

Rachel Nichols was originally cast to appear on the CBS show "Criminal Minds" as a guest star for a three episode arc, but things went so well that they've now hired her on as a series regular. The former "G.I. Joe" and "Star Trek" star will also star in the upcoming "Conan" movie.

Meet J.J.'s new leading lady

Meet Sarah Jones, an actress most recently seen on "Sons of Anarchy," who has been cast as the lead in J.J. Abrams' new show "Alcatraz." She will play a police detective investigating the Alcatraz case (mentioned below). She joins Jennifer Garner and Anna Torv (Fringe) as J.J.'s hand picked leads.

We also now know some details of the show's plot. It involves several Alcatraz prisoners and guards who went missing at the prison 30 years ago and reappear in the present day. Jorge Garcia (Lost's Hurley) plays a modern day Alcatraz expert.

Catch Victor Garber in "Ice Quake" December 11 on SyFy!

There will be a lot of Garber on the SyFy Channel. Spy daddy himself will not only be appearing on Stargate: Universe in the near future, but he will also star in the SyFy original movie "Ice Quake" on Saturday, December 11. Also starring Brendan Fehr, "Ice Quake" tells the story of a family separated when Alaskan glaciers begin to melt, causing earthquakes that threaten the entire planet. If anyone can save earth, it's Victor Garber!

David Anders on Undercovers!

How did I miss hearing about this? David Anders appeared on tonight's episode of "Undercovers" called "Assassin," which is episode #7. To avoid spoilers, I won't give out what his role was, but despite being a J.J. Abrams show, he does NOT play Sark. That would have been AWESOME, but it didn't happen. NBC must not have made much noise about Anders being on the show, because I usually get some sort of alert about the workings of former Alias actors.

It's official: no ALIAS movie!

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly is a special "reunion" issue, including an interview with Jennifer Garner and Victor Garber. EW has posted a video of part of the interview right here. Among the revelations are both Garner and Garber have no desire to do an Alias movie, mentioning that it is the one thing they are always asked about. If those two don't want to do one, we'll never see it. Oh well, we can still dream.

Mia Maestro joins new Twilight film

Mia Maestro is joining the cast of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" as Carmen, a Spanish vampire. She starred in Poseidon and several smaller films since Alias ended, so this should propel her once again into the spotlight.

Jennifer Garner's old dorm room now a cultural landmark

Jennifer Garner's old dorm room has become some sort of cultural landmark. Room 113 of Smith Hall at Denison University in Columbus, Ohio was Garner's home when she first attended college, and it is now a boy's dorm shared by three grateful young men. “I feel her soul in the room every time I walk in,” Guram Sakvarelidze, a student from the country of Georgia, told a reporter about living in the room. Really? I don't care how big a fan you are of Alias, that's still weird.

Rachel Nichols to appear on Criminal Minds

Rachel Nichols has been pretty popular lately, with roles in Star Trek and G.I. Joe, as well as an upcoming role in the new Conan movie. Now, Nichols has signed on to appear in a three episode arc on the CBS show Criminal Minds. She'll play an FBI cadet who consults on a case. An airdate for her episodes has not been scheduled, but it is supposed to be later this season.

Victor Garber on the big screen this week

If you miss your Spy Daddy, you can see him on the big screen this weekend in the movie "You Again." He plays somebody's husband. Don't ask me whose - not even the greatness of Victor Garber can get me to see this flick. He probably gets just a few minutes of screen time anyway. Sorry, Jack.

Undercovers tonight!

Don't forget - J.J. Abrams' new entry in the spy genre, Undercovers, premieres tonight (Wednesday) on NBC. Reviews so far have been mixed, but I'm ready to decide for myself. After the show, go to the message board and post your thoughts.

Affleck won't work again with Jennifer

While promoting his new film "The Town," Ben Affleck talked about the possibility of working with his wife again. The two worked together on "Pearl Harbor" and "Daredevil," before they started dating. "Jen is a great actress. I would be profoundly lucky to work with her," he said. "But something tells me that people don't want to see real-life couples together at the movies. I think audiences have a hard time suspending disbelief. They already know a whole bunch of things about the relationship you have with the other person and if you try and thrust you and another person into a fictional relationship. I think it is distracting."

Fox orders J.J.'s "Alcatraz"

Another island mystery drama for J.J.? It sure looks like it. Fox Television has ordered a pilot from Bad Robot Productions called "Alcatraz." It written by Liz Sarnoff (a Lost writer) as well as Steven Lilen and Bryan Wynbrandt (who wrote fro Kyle XY) and is described as a "dramatic series that explores the lore and mysteries of Alcatraz, the notorious San Francisco island prison." Since this is an order for a pilot, there is no guarantee this will make it to air. Fox executives must review the pilot before ordering a series, usually in the spring.

Garber Goes 'Gate'

Victor Garber will make a guest appearance on the upcoming season of the SyFy Channel's hit show Stargate Universe. According to reports, he will play a character named Ambassador Ovirda of the planet Langara. The new season of Stargate Universe begins September 28, but the date of the episode in which Garber will appear has not been announced. Spy Daddy returns!

David Anders on Vampire Diaries

David Anders certainly made an impression on The Vampire Diaries, the CW hit show, this past season. Without giving spoilers, Anders' character, Uncle John, was a big part of the finale last season, with the second season premiere airing last night. I missed it myself, but you can visit CWTV.com to see past episodes. The premiere isn't up yet, but it should be soon, and several of last season's episodes are available to watch.

J.J. Abrams wants The Rock

Is J.J. at it again? A San Francisco NBC affiliate reports that Abrams is shopping an idea to networks which involves filming at Alcatraz. No word on whether it is a series or TV movie. To see the original article, click here.

Will Applebaum and Nemec's MI-4 script get a rewrite?

Former Alias writers Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec have penned the script for the next Mission: Impossible flick, which J.J. Abrams will produce and Brad Bird (Iron Giant, Incredibles) will direct. Now, word is Paramount is worried about MI-4, after "Knight and Day" tanked at the box office, so much so that they have asked for a rewrite of the script.
